Crime, Cookies, and Crafts
An Adult Book Club
Turon Community Library is proud to host Crime, Cookies, and Crafts: an adult book club.
If you like your mysteries on the seedy side, and prefer you thrillers unfiltered, this is the book club for you! If you like cookies and crafting, then this book club is definitively for you.
Crime, Cookies and Crafts is for any adult (18+) who wants to share their love of reading, baking, and crafting with like minded individuals. We meet on the first Saturday of every month. We eat sweet confections and make a craft while we chat about the book we just read.
This is a social club. We prefer to keep the conversation light and fun. We will discuss the things we loved or hated about the book. We will discuss our favorite characters. We will talk about what made the villain so creepy and the hero so identifiable. Of if you are like me, you may find the villain dreamy and the hero to be a simp. Either way, let’s talk about it! We can rehash plot twists and brag about how we knew it was the butler from the start.
What we will not do is expect a literary analysis from every reader with in-depth character portraits and key studies on symbolism. We read for fun. If those things are fun for you, please still join us, but don’t expect everyone to meet you at a dissertation level of discussion. Our goal is to socialize over sweet reads and sweeter treats.
Our crafts will not necessarily tie into the books. But there will be a craft to do at every meeting while we discuss our books. It keeps our hands busy, and provides something to do if you aren’t a talker.
Please know that since this is an adult book club, the books are not pre-screened for language or graphic content. Due to the fact we are reading thrillers and seedier mysteries, it is very likely these books will be dark and adult themed. No one is ever required to read anything that makes them uncomfortable. Feel free to skip over parts, or skip books all together if they are triggering or just too gritty for your palate. We all have different thresholds. We will always be respectful, but please be knowledgeable of the fact the books will likely have adult content and we will not be providing any warnings or summaries of what that content is. You will have to do your own research if this is a concern.
You are not required to purchase anything. The library will order the books via inter-library loan. They will be available to pick up at the meeting. You will have one month to read, then bring the book back to the next meeting where you can pick up a new book and turn in the old one. Books are requested approximately two weeks before they are needed, so if you can’t make a meeting but still want to read along, just let the librarian know, she can get you a copy.
We are excited to host this new book club and can’t wait to see everyone there!
Please check out the calendar to RSVP for this event. We want to make sure we have enough books for everyone.
As always, the library seeks to meet the needs of the community and there are a lot of readers out there. If you are looking for a book club, but this doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, let us know! We have other book clubs that may be a better fit, or we can start one! Chances are you aren’t the only one with your tastes. Well, maybe, we are a small town, but we will work diligently to find or create something for you!
